Philippines' agriculture department to open US$1.26 million of aqua hatcheries
The Philippine Department of Agriculture (DA) will construct two bangus (milkfish) central hatcheries, three mariculture parks and an array of aquaculture projects worth US$1.26 million (P57 million) to hoist fisheries as a main driver for Philippine agriculture.
The Philippine Star reports that Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap plans to launch within two months include three mariculture parks worth P5 million each in Sagnay in Camarines Sur, Calapan in Oriental Mindoro and Puerto Princesa in Palawan; a P6-million seaweed processing plant and a P100,000 seaweed nursery, both in Parang, Maguindanao.
