VION takes over bankrupt beef processor Weyl
Earlier this month, Dutch food company VION Foods acquired parts of the assets of beef producer Weyl Beef Products in Enschede, which went bankrupt in May.
The acquisition is being submitted to the European competition authority.
VION expects by mid-August approval by the competition authority and following this approval, VION's Weyl business will resume.
Weyl Beef Products was founded in 1977 and was the largest producer and processor of beef in the Netherlands. More than 600 people including around 200 part time staff worked for the company before its bankruptcy.
VION is an international food company that produces foods and ingredients for both humans and animals and supplies to markets within and beyond Europe through industrial, retail and food service partners, with an annual turnover of EUR9 billion (US$11.6 billion).
