Germany processes more pigs in H1 2008
German slaughterhouses have processed more pigs in the first half of 2008 compared to the same period in 2007, according to German market bureau ZMP.
Total number of processed pigs during the period increased by 1 million to 23 million head on-year due to increasing imports of finishers, ZMP said.
Exports also played a key role in the growth as the German meat industry saw a 20 percent on-year increase for shipments. Germany's export markets have expanded due to high demands in Asia and lower-than-expected production in Eastern Europe.
However, Germany's production growth in the second half of 2008 is expected not to be as high.
