Uzbek president Islam Karimov congratulated the country's farmers with the completion of harvest, which has reached seven million tonnes.
In his letter, the Uzbek president said that the country collected 286,000 tonnes of more grain in 2010 compared to previous year. From each hectare of irrigated area, grain-growers received 51 centners of grain. The good crop was also received on dry lands.
The yield made up 53-58 centners per hectare in Andijan, Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Samarkand and Tashkent regions. The yield exceeded 55-67 centners per hectare in Pakhtaabad, Balykchi, Ishtyhan, Yakkabag, Kasb, Urganch, Gijduvan, Peshku, Quyichirchiq and Dustlik districts.
Karimov said that after fulfilling their contractual obligations, farmers kept 4.09 million tonnes of grain or 60% of total crop. "The transfer of land to its true owners, the formation of a sense of ownership, commitment of every employee in the results of his work and changes on this basis of ideology and thinking of workers, strengthening their confidence in the future are clear manifestation of fundamental changes taking place today in the countryside," Karimov said.
