Australia beef sector to implement five-year plan soon

Australia's beef industry will implement a five-year plan in 2010, according to the Red Meat Advisory Council Steering Committee.

Terry Nolan from the Committee said themes in the plan will include market access, recruitment of skilled workers, and environmental and ethical concerns.

If there is a good and flexible framework in place, the Australian beef industry will be able to act quicker and maintain its position in the markets and could be the first to break into new emerging markets, said Nolan.

The plan is currently being finalised by the Red Meat Advisory Council Steering Committee, and a draft plan is expected to be available in August this year.
