China: McDonald's, Yum! suspend orders from meat supplier Husi

McDonald's Corp. and Yum! Brands Inc. stopped orders from Shanghai meat supplier Husi Food Co. while authorities investigate allegations that the company sold expired chicken and beef, Bloomberg reports.
Acting in request from the Shanghai food and drug administration, McDonald's asked all its outlets in China to stop using products from Husi, while Yum! Brands' KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants followed suit. Shanghai's food and drug administration said it was investigating the claims.
Shanghai authorities suspended operations at Husi on the same day the media exposed the company's workers repackaging and selling expired chicken and beef. The products were allegedly given a shelf life of an additional year.
Shanghai Husi, owned by Aurora, Illinois-based OSI Group., has a strict quality-control system and will cooperate with the investigation, said Yang Liqun, general manager for deep processing with OSI China.
