Azerbaijan to expand grain storage capacity

The National Entrepreneurship Support Fund of the Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan is financing 15 investment projects with the goal to establish grain storage complexes in six economic districts.

Fund's executive director Shirzad Abdullayev said that additional capacities for storage of grain for 266,000 tonnes will be created in the country with these projects.

"Five grain storages have been operating and 10 ones will be commissioned this October," Abdullayev said.

Construction of grain storages was needed in connection with growth of grain production in the country (in 2009, it reached three million tonnes).

Projects were supposed to relate to creation of warehouse complexes conforming to modern standards, for processing and storage of grain. Capacity of each warehouse was 10,000 tonnes. The bids for grain storage projects were received for Aran, Nagorno-Shirvan, Sheki-Zakatal, Ganja-Gazakh, Lankaran and Upper Garabagh regions.
