Indonesia's Sulawesi to ship beef to Malaysia
South Sulawesi province has secured a permit from the central government to export beef to Malaysia, an official said.
Hopefully, the beef exports could be started late this year at the latest, head of the South Sulawesi Husbandry and Animal Health Service Murtafa Ali said Friday (Jul 16).
He added however that his office still had to improve the existing slaughter house and packing system for fear that the province was unable to meet beef demand from the neighbouring country.
So far, the office had appointed a slaughter house in Gowa district to export beef, he said.
He added that the office was looking into the possibility of cooperation with a husbandry company in managing slaughter houses.
South Sulawesi had the capacity to supply up to 50,000 tonnes of beef to Malaysia per year, he said.
