Ukraine's pig population up marginally in June

 


In June, the Ukrainian pig population rose by 1.7% or 138,000 heads compared with May, to 8,313,800 heads as of July 1, 2010, the State Statistics Committee has reported.


Pig population grew by 1.9% or 88,100 heads compared to May, to 4.742 million heads in private farms, and by 1.4% or 49,900 heads to 3.571 million heads in specialised farms.


The pig population rose by 14.5% or 1.052 million heads against July 1, 2009. Specifically, pig population grew by 16.4% or 503,200 heads in specialised farms, and by 13.1% or 549,000 heads in private farms.


According to earlier reports, in May the pig population went up by 2.8% or 223,000 heads compared with April, to 8.175 million heads as of June 1, 2010.
