Russia lifts flu-related pork bans on Wisconsin, Ontario

Russia on Friday (July 17) lifted a ban on swine and pork imports from the US state of Wisconsin and Canadian province of Ontario, the sanitary and veterinary authority Rosselkhoznadzor said Saturday.

The decision affects imports of pork and live swine produced before April 21 and after July 18 "because the animal disease linked to (the swine flu virus) has stabilized," Rosselkhoznadzor said as quoted by Interfax news agency.

In the last report on the AH1N1 virus released by the World Health Organization on July 6, the UN agency had recorded 94,512 laboratory-confirmed cases in 136 countries and territories since April, including 429 deaths.
