Ukraine meat exports to EU seen to rake in US$30 million annually

Meat exports from Ukraine to EU countries may run into US$30 million a year if Ukraine gets the permit to supply, stated experts of the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business association.

Experts said that on condition of having a permit to the export of meat to the EU, Ukraine may supply to Europe during a year minimum 10,000 tonnes of chicken and 5,000 tonnes of beef for about US$30 million.

They said a start of the export to the EU may promote investments in cattle breeding, which will suspend beef production decline, and will make it possible to further increase the production of chicken.

Depending on the situation in the market in coming years, the volumes of beef and chicken exports may grow, with a gradual development of the export potential on pork.

Experts of the SANCO directorate-general for Health and Consumer Protection of the European Commission inspected in early June Ukraine's five poultry factories to consider prospects for the export of their products to the EU member-countries.

According to local media, results of the inspection are expected to some in July this year.
