India 2008-09 oilseed output seen at 28.1 million tonnes
India's oilseed output in the marketing year ending Oct. 31 is estimated at 28.1 million metric tonnes, while local vegetable oil supplies are estimated at 8.6 million tonnes, K.V. Thomas, the junior farm minister told Parliament Friday (July 17).
Local demand for vegetable oil is expected to be 15.1 million tonnes, Thomas said.
The country imports about half its annual requirement of vegetable oil, mostly from Malaysia and Indonesia.
