Ukraine's poultry population up by 12 percent

Ukraine's poultry population rose in June to 199,060 million heads, an 11.8 percent increase compared to May 2007.

Ukrainian News reported that the State Statistics Committee estimates that in private farms poultry population rose by an even more dramatic 18.4 percent or 18.979 million heads. In specialized farms the increase was only 2.7 percent or 1.981 million heads.

However, the poultry population only rose 0.3 percent on-year. When compared to Jun 2006, in specialized farms, poultry population rose by 7.8 percent or 5.572 million heads, and in private farms poultry population actually fell by 4 percent or 5.065 million.
