Russia's June beef imports climb on-year

The beef imports of Russia in June amounted to US$281.9 million, up by 5.5% on-year and down 9.3% in May this year, the federal customs service reported Friday (July 13).

The customs service didn't give figures in tonnages of the imported beef, only the value in dollars.

Russia imported US$206.2 million worth of pork in June, 3.1% less than in June 2011 and 10.2% less than in May this year.

Russia's poultry imports in June were worth US$44 million, 29.2% less than in June 2011 and 42.4% less than in May this year.

Considerable private investment in Russia in the poultry industry, as well as state support, has increased domestic production and cut imports.
