Ukraine's January-May general commodity exports, imports up
Ukraine's general commodity exports in January-May of 2012 totalled US$28.2 billion, 5.8% up compared to the same period of 2011, while imports at US$33.9 billion, up 7.4%.
The coverage ratio of exports to imports totalled 0.83 (in January-May of 2011 - 0.84), according to data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.
The volume of commodity exports to the CIS countries formed 36.8% of the general exports, Asia - 27.2%, Europe - 24.5% (including the EU countries - 24.1%), Africa - 8%; America - 3.3%.
In particular, the highest volumes of export supplies from Ukraine were provided to the Russian Federation - 26.5% from the general export volumes of commodities, Turkey - 5.6%, Egypt - 4.2%, Poland - 4.1%, Kazakhstan - 3.8%, India - 3.6% and Italy- 3.5%.
The share of grain products in the general volumes of commodity exports increased from the level of 3.7% to 9.6% compared to the reporting period of 2011.
The volume of imports from the CIS countries formed 41.3% of the general imports, Europe - 32% (including the European Union - 30.5%), Asia - 19.4%, America - 6%, Africa - 1%, Australia and Oceania - 0.3%. Ukraine received most import supplies from the following certain countries: the Russian Federation - 33.2%, China - 8.1%, Germany - 7.9%, Belarus - 5.8%, the USA - 4.2%, Poland - 3.9%, Italy - 2.9%.
During five months of 2012, Ukraine received foreign raw materials, supplied by customer, at the sum of US$1.44 billion (down 4.3%). The volume of exports of finished products made from import raw materials totalled US$2.14 billion (down 6.4% compared to January-May of 2011).
The credit balance deficit totalled US$5.7 billion, as opposed to US$4.9 billion in the same period of 2011.
