Flooding affects aquaculture production in China's Jiangsu province
According to the Ocean and Fisheries Bureau of China's Jiangsu province, heavy rainfall in the past week has affected aquaculture production activities in many areas of the province.
Aquaculture farms located in the Hongze Lake region as well as tributaries of the Huai River were severely affected after rising water levels caused large numbers of farmed fishes and shrimps to escape from the confines of aqua farm areas.
Over 53,000 hectares of land in the province has been flooded and direct economic losses is estimated to have exceeded RMB1 billion. Jiangsu's authorities are doing their best to assist affected farmers.
