Vietnam's seafood exports grow 11.6%
From January to May 2012, the seafood exports of Vietnam gained US$2.33 billion, representing an on-year increase of 11.6%, declared the General Department of Customs.
In May, the country earned US$549.75 million, up 8.92% from April, the department said.
The US was the biggest importer of Vietnamese seafood in the period, with import value of US$443.6 million, up 14.92% on year, followed by Japan with US$404.3 million, up 34.17%.
Exports of Vietnamese seafood to South Korea and China increased 19.33% and 5.31% on year to US$195.1 million and US$89.44 million, respectively.
Vietnam's seafood export to Egypt surged 151% to US$36.95 million but declined 45.9% to Indonesia (US$3.28 million) and 44.57% to Poland (US$12.69 million).
Vietnam targets to earn US$6.8 billion from seafood export this year compared to US$6.323 billion last year.
