US beef exports rises while broiler and pork drops in May

Russia remains the top importer of US chicken whereas Japan remained the main consumer of US pork in the month of May, according to the USDA monthly date on the livestock and meat trade.

The data is based on information obtained from the US Department of Commerce.

For beef and pork, USDA converts the quantity data from a product-weight basis to a carcass-weight-equivalent basis. Only the largest countries are listed.

Beef exports in May rose from 118.3 million pounds to 126.5 million pounds the previous year.

May's pork exports dropped from 270.0 million pounds to 242.7 million pounds on-year and broiler exports dropped from 442,433  million pounds to 423,430 million pounds.

Although overall exports have risen for beef and dropped for pork, the situation was reversed for the top-buying countries.

Mexico's purchase of US beef have dropped significantly from 70,924 million pounds in May last year to 54.9 million pounds this year.

Japan's pork purchases went up from 89.9 million pounds last year to 97.1 million pounds this year.

Russia's broiler purchases in the month of May also fell from 144.0 million pounds last May to 136.3 million pounds this year.
