Argentina 2007/08 corn area seen up 20 to 25 percent on-year
Argentina will plant 20 to 25 percent more area with corn in 2007/08 compared with a year earlier, the Buenos Aires Cereals Exchange said in its weekly crop report Friday (July 13).
However, the lack of available fertilizer, seeds and fuel may lead some farmers to shift from corn this year, the exchange said.
To date, farmers have harvested 98.5 percent of the 2006/07 corn crop with yields from the 2006/07 crop expected to average 8 tonnes per hectare and total production of a record 22.5 million tonnes, according to the Exchange.
