US 2006/07 wheat exports to South-east Asia up 26.6 percent on-year

US wheat exports to South-east Asia rose 26.6 percent on-year to 3.8 million tonnes for the crop year ending May 31, 2007, a US grower lobby said Monday (Jul 16).

A shortfall in the Australian wheat crop helped US exporters increase sales, Mark Samson, vice-president (South Asia) US Wheat Associates, told Dow Jones Newswires.

Australia's last wheat crop was more than halved because of severe drought, severely restricting its export surplus.

"The US had a very strong year in Asia for wheat exports and I hope we continue this performance in 2007/08 too," said Samson.
