India soy sowing 80 percent complete despite late rains

India has completed soy sowing over 80 percent of its crop area as monsoon rains advance to the key-growing central regions, a senior trade official said Wednesday.

"It is now raining in the main soy-growing regions," said Rajesh Agrawal, a spokesman for the Soybean Processors Association of India. "So, there is no cause for concern."

Sowing will be completed by the end of the month, but crop output will depend on crucial follow-up rains in August and September, he said.

The latest federal farm ministry data showed that soybean sowing area was 3.16 million hectares from June 1-July 10. It didn't provide the comparable figure for the same period last year.
