Ukraine expects higher quality wheat harvest in 2009
Ukraine's wheat harvest this year is expected to contain a higher proportion of milling wheat than last year, and the milling wheat will be of a higher quality, the leading national agricultural analyst APK-Inform said Tuesday (July 14).
APK-Inform said as of July 13, the total amount of wheat received by Ukraine's grain storage facilities contained 35 percent of grades one and three wheat, which are milling grades. Feed wheat grades four and five accounted for 12 percent of the total amount of wheat, and feed wheat grade six accounted for 53 percent of the total amount of wheat received.
A year ago, milling wheat harvested to date accounted for 29 percent of the total amount of wheat harvested, whereas this year the figure has gone up to 35 percent. The final proportion of milling wheat in total wheat harvested this year is expected at 40 percent, APK-Inform said.
