Northern Ireland's milk production rises by 24 percent
Milk production in Northern Ireland increased by 24 percent in June at 229 million litres, 45 million litres more than last year.
The Provisional Rural Payments Agency (RPA) figures show that in the UK, 1,172 million litres of milk were delivered to dairies, 54 million litres lower than in May, but an increase from last year.
June 2008 production is 2.2 percent or 25 million litres above June production in 2007.
Provisional figures for June 2008 in Great Britain show that deliveries stand at 943 million litres, 2.1 percent or 20 million litres below deliveries in June 2007.
Meanwhile, the latest information from DG-Agri shows that the average EU-25 milk price for April was EUR35.49/100kg, equivalent to 27.40 pence per litre.
Average milk prices in each of the EU-25 countries have seen significant increases over the last 12 months, up by 32 percent to 74 percent.
Portugal has seen an increase of 74 percent from an average of 18.16ppl in April 2007 to an average of 31.61ppl in April 2008.
The average milk price in Austria has increased by 56 percent, from 19.79ppl to 30.88ppl in the same period.
Milk prices in Cyprus have seen the smallest increase at 32 percent from 27.08ppl to 35.73ppl.
However, it should be noted that, in April 2007, Cyprus had the highest average milk price of the EU-25 countries, with 27.08ppl.
