LeSaffre's selenium yeast gains EU approval

LeSaffre Feed Additives has gained approval for use of its Selsaf selenium enriched yeast as a nutritional feed additive in the EU.

After having received approval by EFSA for safety and efficiency in March 2009, the last Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health vote of the European Commission, approved Selsaf as a nutritional feed additive under the number EC 3b8.12.

Selsaf is deactivated yeast high in organic selenium, mainly selenomethionine.

Its selenium content is guaranteed at 2,200 mg Se/kg with 97 to 99 percent of organic selenium.

The selenium enriched yeast is currently approved for ruminants, pigs, poultry, horses and rabbits.

In the EU, the product will be available from July 15, 2009.
