Poultry farm in India develops selenium-enriched eggs
A poultry farm in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, has developed selenium-enriched eggs to counter selenium deficiencies.
The eggs, dubbed 'super eggs', are selenium rich and could alleviate the effects of illnesses like arthritis, cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
The eggs were produced by feeding hens with rich organic selenium fodder, which includes fish, corn and 14 other ingredients.
These eggs are graded and have printed dates on them to let consumers know their freshness.
The poultry farm has a production capacity of 500,000 eggs, which are supplied to Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. The farm also plans to export these eggs to Middle East and other European countries.
