Russian '09 pork imports to reach 19 percent of quota
By the end of the current year, Russia's pig meat volumes will be almost 100,000 tonnes, or 19 percent of the pig meat import quota for 2009.
Since 2003, the importing of pork to Russia has been cut by quotas. In 2009, the pork quota is 5.3 million tonnes, with a 15-percent import tariff.
According to Federal Customs Service, January-February 2009 saw a 16.5-percent reduction, up to almost US$933 million, in the import of fresh and frozen meats.
