India's Sursagar Dairy to set up own milk packaging plant
As one of the fastest growing dairies in the region, the Surendranagar District Co-operative Milk Producers' Union Ltd has plans for construction of its own milk packaging plant in Surendrangar.
The dairy popularly called Sursagar dairy is one of the member unions of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF) that markets the country's most famous food brand, Amul.
According to the manager of Sursagar Dairy, Dhiraj Chaudhary, at present the dairy collects milk from all village co-operatives of the region and sends the procured milk to Mother Dairy in Gandhinagar for further processing.
"We are planning to set up a one lakh litre milk packaging plant in Surendranagar this year. With this move, we will reduce the transportation cost which the dairy bears. At present, the milk is sent to Gandhinagar for processing and packaging and then sent for marketing. Once the plant is operational, Sursagar Dairy will package and market the procured milk under Amul brand on its own," Chaudhary said.
