Brazilian wheat sector wants suspension of 10 percent import tariff
The Brazilian Association of Wheat Products Manufacturers (Abitrigo) is urging the government to temporarily suspend the ten percent tariff on wheat imports from US, Canada and other countries outside the Mercosur bloc to prevent increase of wheat and byproduct prices.
In March 2007, Brazilian millers had to look for other sources to purchase wheat with an import tariff of ten percent when Argentina - main supplier of the grain to Brazil - decided to interrupt wheat exports in order to increase domestic sales.
