Japan's position as world's top seafood importer under threat

More countries are buying fishery products at higher prices than those offered by Japan, threatening Japan's position as the top importers of fishery products, an analysis from the Fisheries Agency of Japan (FAJ)

The agency analysed the purchase for Pollock, surimi, salmon, sablefish, king crab and opilio based on the data released by the US Department of Commerce.

The issue has raised concerns in the fishery industry and the agency has termed it as a setback.

The analysis was intended to clarify the issue with regards to trade with the US, one of the major exporters of fishery products to Japan.
