China approves import of Monsanto's GM NK603 corn

China has approved the import of GM giant Monsanto's NK603 Roundup Ready corn, designed to resist Monsanto's Roundup Ready herbicide.

China is expected to consume 120 million tonnes of corn this year.

This decision has brought total Chinese biotech approvals to eight types of corn, two types of cotton, seven types of canola and one type of soybeans, according to the US government.

Meanwhile, Europe and Argentina have already approved the NK703 corn.
