Malaysia's CCK set to boost poultry output for Ramadan, Aidilfitri

In order to meet the growing demand for their Halal products anticipated during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, CCK Consolidated Holdings Bhd, a Sarawak-based poultry producer, is ready to increase its production.
Chief operating officer Lim Teck Huak said their processing plant located here, which could process 30,000 birds per day, is now operating at about 85% capacity but could be pushed further to meet demand.
"It will not be a problem for us to raise our production by another 10% or even 15%t, but it all boils down to the need," he told reporters during a day-long media tour of CCK's production facilities and outlets which ended last night.
He said CCK's poultry products earned their halal certifications from the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) in 1995 and 1997 respectively.
"About 32% of our products (in Sarawak) are supplied to our corporate clients who also include several leading names in the fast food industry, while the remainder are retailed through CCK outlets," he said.
CCK has a total of 52 retail and wholesale stores nationwide, with processing factories here and in Kuching. Lim said their third processing plant in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah is expected to be operational this year, during which eight more new outlets will also open.
CCK was established as an investment holding company on August 5, 1996 before being listed on the second board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) on December 10, 1997.
