Russia removes ban on Poland's cattle imports

The Polish veterinary service has been informed that the ban on cattle imports from Warmian-Mazurian and Greater Poland provinces has been lifted from July 6, 2012 by Russia's animal and plant health watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor.

Currently, the ban remains in force for the Opolskie and Swietokrzyskie provinces, the regulator said. The ban was imposed after an outbreak of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).

Rosselkhoznadzor said the ban on imports from the Warmian-Mazurian and Greater Poland provinces was lifted because they have not had the disease since 2008.

The regulator has also confirmed restrictions on cattle and pig imports from the EU, except for breeding animals, which are to be kept in quarantine under the control of Russian vets.
