Chinese grain operators buy 20.4 million tonnes new wheat
By end of June, the grain enterprises of China had bought 20.4 million tonnes of new wheat in major producing regions, according to the National Grain and Oil Trade Center.
The state-owned firms bought 13.75 million tonnes of wheat, accounting for 67% of the total purchases.
The Ministry of Agriculture earlier said that the country was expected to see a record high summer grain output this year thanks to steady increase of planting area and unit yield. China's winter wheat output reached 110.79 million tonnes in 2011, or 19.4% of the nation's full-year grain production.
