According to a USDA report, US May edible non-fat dry milk output reached 195,490,000 pounds, up 2% from April and up 31% from May 2011.
Manufacturers' stocks of edible non-fat dry milk were 215,346,000 pounds, down 5% from April but up 32% from May 2011. May non-fat dry milk shipments were 198,201,000 pounds, up 16% from April and up 55% from May 2011.
Output of skim milk powders was 13,321,000 pounds, down 24% from April and down 63% from May 2011.
Total dry whey production was 86,302,000 pounds, up slightly from 85,990,000 pounds in April but down 6% from May 2011. Production of lactose was 87,373,000 pounds, up slightly from 87,231,000 pounds in April and up from 87,301,000 pounds in May 2011. Whey protein concentrate production totalled 36,743,000 pounds, down 1% from April but up slightly from 36,669,000 pounds in May 2011.
Dry buttermilk outturn was 8,688,000 pounds, down 8% from April but up 5% from May 2011.
Total manufacturers' stocks of dry whey on May 31, 2012, were 49,627,000 pounds, down 2% from April and down 3% from May 2011. Total lactose stocks were 80,977,000 pounds, up 2% from April and up 9% from May 2011. Whey protein concentrate stocks totalled 50,026,000 pounds, up 6% from April and up 59% from May 2011. Dry buttermilk stocks totalled 19,206,000 pounds, down 18% from April but up 7% from May 2011.
Butter production in May 2012 was 163,282,000 pounds, down 4% from April but up 5% from May 2011.
Total cheese production was 915,783,000 pounds, up 1% from April and up slightly from 912,486,000 pounds in May 2011.
Production of regular hard ice cream totalled 76,277,000 pounds, up 10% from April and up 6% from May 2011. Low-fat ice cream production was 41,781,000 pounds, up 3% from April but down slightly from 41,914,000 pounds in May 2011.
