Vietnam's Northern Province launches garbage-based compost fertiliser plant

With an annual processing capacity of 64,000 tonnes of garbage, a garbage-based compost fertiliser plant was inaugurated in Hai Duong on July 5.

Construction of the plant began in 2004 on an area of five hectares in Viet Hong Commune in Thanh Ha District and Tuan Hung Commune in Kim Thanh District.

Investment in its facilities totalled VND137 billion (US$6.5 million), VND60 billion (US$3 million) of which was official development assistance (ODA) from the Spanish Government. The remaining amount was contributed from the local budget.

The plant will help address environmental pollution in the Soi Nam rubbish dump and provide around 12,390 tonnes of organic fertiliser for agricultural production.
