Fish diseases more rampant in Norway than before
Norway's fish farmers are incurring heavy losses due to Infectious Salmon Anemia (ISA) and pancreas disease (PD).
The disease has spread like wildfire over the past six months with 16 confirmed ISA outbreaks and 62 cases of PD. Statistics for both diseases are twice as many cases as in the entire 2007.
ISA and PD are not fatal to humans but infected ponds will kill many fish. On top of that, the farmers must also disinfect the nets and replace equipment that are still in good order, which cause more losses.
