Brazilian grain crop to rise 8.9% on-year

 


The grain crop of Brazil will amount to 145.9 million tonnes in 2010, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) studies released Thursday (July 8).


The study reveals that the country's cultivated area will reach 46.8 million hectares, down 0.9% from the previous year. The area cultivated with soy is to increase 7.2%, whereas the areas cultivated with corn will go down by 6.7%.


Soy and corn production is expected to go up by 19.4% and 4.4%, respectively.

 

The two crops belong to majority of Brazil's grain production.
