Winter wheat harvest gives Kansas quality crops
Growers in the northwestern region of Kansas are bringing in excellent crops as cutting slows down, according to the latest wheat harvest report.
The trade group Kansas Wheat reported Wednesday (July 7) what it calls phenomenal crops from the first five days of cutting in St. Francis before last weekend's rains. Test weights are ranging from 60 to nearly 66 pounds per bushel. Protein values are averaging 13-14%.
At the Decatur Co-op in Oberlin, harvest is about finished by half at the cooperative's nine locations with test weights between 58 and 63 pounds per bushel and protein values of 11-12.5%. General manager Kurt Anderson says it is an above-average crop.
