Norway cuts import duty on beef shortagesÂ
A shortage of beef on the Norwegian market has led farmers cooperative Nortura to call on the Norwegian Agricultural Authority (SLF) for a duty reduction on imported beef.
Â
The Authority has agreed and reduced the duty on partly and fully slaughtered beef, hind parts and legs by 35% to NOK23 (US$3.59)/kilogramme and NOK23.50 (US$3.69)/kg respectively. These duties are effective between July 19 and August 22.
Â
Nortura is a Norwegian agricultural cooperative that operates slaughterhouses and other processing plants related to meat and eggs, with annual revenue of NOK15 billion (US$2.36 billion). The company is owned by about 31,200 farmers throughout the country and is one of 13 agricultural cooperatives in Norway. It has head offices in Oslo and processes 206,000 tonnes of meat at 41 plants in 2006.
