Brazilian '09 pork export estimates revised up
                               

 

The Brazilian Pork Packaging and Export Association (ABIPECS) revised upward its 2009 exports estimates, after first half sales were better than expected.

 

According to ABIPECS president Pedro de Camargo Neto, foreign sales could reach 600,000 tonnes this year, up from previous forecast of 530,000 tonnes, the same amount exported in 2008. In 2007, pork exports were at 606,000 tonnes.

 

In the first half of 2009, foreign sales of pork were 8.79-percent higher than in the same period a year ago. Revenues, however, dropped 17.63 percent to BRL583.07 million.

 

Camargo said the average export price retreated 24.29 percent in comparison to year-ago values.

 

Brazilian pork exports rose 4.23 percent in June versus the same month in 2008, to 53,920 tonnes. Revenues, however, dropped 30.01 percent to 103,220 million.

 

The average price in Russia in June was 33-percent lower when compared to June last year. From January to June, Brazil sold Russia 137,580 tonnes, up 18.78 percent from 115,820 tonnes in the same month of 2008.

 

In revenue terms, exports in June 2009 were at BRL231.81 million, down from year-ago 115.820 tonnes, down 22.18 percent.
