Australia farm group opposes cattle brand fee

Farm lobby group AgForce says the introduction of a new Queensland government fee for cattle brand registrations would be unfair.

AgForce cattle president Grant Maudsley said a new fee would penalise a healthy industry which is a major contributor to the state's economy, therefore the charging of a new fee does not make sense.

Maudsley said the group will lobby the State Government not to introduce the new registration fee.

Primary Industries Minister Tim Mulherin said the government is considering how the brand system is funded as part of a review of Biosecurity Queensland. The minister also said livestock owners already pay for the initial registration and transfer of brands used to establish stock ownership.
