Brazilian Q1 2007 egg output up 1.4 percent
Brazilian egg output reached 523.6 million dozens in the first quarter of 2007, up 1.4 percent on-year, according to Brazil's Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
IBGE's study comprises data of Brazilian poultry farms with more than 10,000 hens. Thus, the announced figure is lower than Brazil's actual egg production levels.
Still, this was a decline of 1.8 percent compared to the last quarter of the year due to the lower number of working days in the first quarter of 2007.
Egg production at Sao Paulo, Brazil's largest egg producing state, at 171.665 million dozens, was down 1.3 percent . Southeastern Minas Gerais and southern Parana followed with 68.427 million and 50.089 million dozens of eggs, up 2.33 percent and 3.79 percent , respectively.
