Germany's pig numbers down 2% on-year in May
 

 

According to new data which reveals a sharp drop in the number of farms holding breeding sows, Germany's pig breeding herd has fallen to its lowest level in several decades.

 

Figures from the Federal Statistics Office (Destatis) show that total pig numbers in Germany fell to 27.4 million head in May 2013 - a drop of 2% when compared to last year.
