Peru to partially lift anchovy fishing ban
Peru would lift a ban on fishing for anchovy on Wednesday. However, the ban in the north would last until the next fishing season in September to protect fish that are spawning, allowing for future procreation seasons.
Peru is the world's top producer of fishmeal, and periodically establishes bans to monitor and protect fish stocks. Peru produced 1.9 million tonnes of fishmeal last year, 61 percent more than in 2003. Peru's total fish exports registered a 59 percent year-on-year increase in the first five months of this year.
