Indonesia's Bali to develop soy plantations
Bali farmers have been encouraged to develop soy plantations after they were able to increase the island's soy production in 2009 to 13,622 tonnes, a 45.03% increase compared with the previous year's 9,424 tonnes, a statistics official said.
"They are encouraged with improved soy prices so that their incomes are also increased," said the chief of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for Bali, Ida Komang.
He said that the increase in the farmers' soy production was generated by the expansion of their plantations to 3,033 hectares.
