Australia beef exports to Japan up two percent in June

Australia exported 32,102 tonnes swt of beef to Japan in June, up two percent on-year, according to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

Grassfed beef exports increased seven percent to 19,739 tonnes, offsetting a five-percent decline in grainfed beef shipments which amounted to 12,362 tonnes.

The strengthened Australian dollar and tight cattle supply continued to challenge beef exporters.

Meanwhile, Japanese importers' interest in Australian beef and their need to secure products have increased but buying has been very cautious, said exporters.

Chilled export prices lifted slightly from last week, while frozen values remained mostly unchanged in US dollar terms.
