China's frozen pork stockpiling program ends in Shandong
To prevent pork prices from falling further and protect the hog breeders' interests, the Chinese government launched a program to stockpile 120,000 tonnes of frozen pork and it was concluded by the end of June.
The last batch of frozen pork was packed and stored into the refrigerator of Jinan Welcome Food Co Ltd which is located in a logistics centre in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province.
Ma Xianhua, vice-president of Jinan Welcome Food Co Ltd said his company bid for the contract to reserve 40,000 tonnes of pork assigned by the central government.
The Ministry of Commerce earlier held a bidding session for the pork reservation project.
Ma added that if pork prices rise too high, the reserves will be put into the market to ease the price.
