India allows export of 900,000 tonnes of wheat

India is to allow the export of 900,000 tonnes of wheat up to March 31, 2010, a statement on the Web site of India's Directorate General of Foreign Trade said Friday (July 3).

The statement said three state run firms - MMPC Ltd., PEC Ltd. and SPC Ltd. - are to export 300 000 tonnes each.

The export of up to 650,000 tonnes of wheat products is also being allowed up to March 31, 2010, and this is open to all firms, private and state-run.

India enforced a ban on wheat exports in 2007.
