Pakistan will not continue wheat procurements for now
Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation Ltd (PASSCO) Jun 30 stopped procuring wheat from the 2007 crop, after successfully taking up 1.269 million tonnes of the grain.
The quantity accounts for 97.6 percent of the 1.3 million-tonne target set earlier, and when added to PASSCO's carryover stock of 0.232 million tonnes from the 2006 crop, brings the organisation's total wheat stocks to about 1.5 million tonnes.
Many farmers directly tendered their wheat at PASSCO buying centers during the organisation's procurement period that started in the second week of April, PASSCO said.
