India 2007 wheat production no less than 73.7 million tonnes
 

India's wheat production in 2007 is not expected to be less than 73.7 million tonnes, Agriculture Secretary P.K. Mishra said Thursday (Jul 5).

This represents a more than 1 million-tonne increase over the farm ministry's previous estimate for this year.

In 2006, India produced 69.48 million tonnes of wheat, while the government imported 5.5 million tonnes.

Recently, the government said it received seven offers against its latest tender to buy 1 million tonnes of wheat.
